Past Pilots – The Sanctuary

In our first year, Bridge It piloted The Sanctuary model. The idea was simple: support people with long histories of homelessness and psychosocial disabilities to access a stable long-term home, create a community around them and provide one-to-one support.

The outcome was that 6 of the 7 residents maintained their housing for the initial 12 months and chose to extend their stay. It’s an incredible achievement, given they were in all kinds of short-term or inappropriate housing before they moved in. The residents built friendships, brought their pets into their homes and stabilised. After the first year, only 2 residents require ongoing support, and we assist them through The Cocoon Outreach program.

The verdict…long-term housing, support and community changes lives. We hope to have many more opportunities to provide similar housing models and support down the track.
